Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Sudden deafness is considered an ENT emergency. Although known for a long time, until now, the problem of diagnosing the cause and treating it is still controversial and continues to be researched. Some causes of sudden deafness are thought to be vascular disease, viral infection, trauma, and autoimmune disease. There are many ways to treat sudden deafness: systemic corticosteroids, trans-atrial corticosteroids, hyperbaric oxygen, ... In the University Medicine Center Ho Chi Minh City-Branch 2, we apply the treatment regimen for sudden deafness with systemic corticosteroids. In combination with intravenous aniracetam, with a 10-day hospital stay, during which time the patient will have an audiogram to assess the degree of improvement in hearing. However, a 10-day hospital stay is too long in today’s modern life. Therefore, we conducted a study with the goal of assessing the rate of hearing recovery after 10 days of treatment at the University Medicine Center Ho Chi Minh City-Branch 2. And how much is the improvement rate at different times at 3, 5, 7, and 10 days to get advice about the patient’s hospital stay?
Methods: Case series.
Results: On the 10th day of treatment, the rate of hearing improvement at each frequency was as follows: Frequency 250 Hz: 64.7% (an improvement of 29.4%); Frequency 500 Hz: 76.4% (an improvement of 38.2%); Frequency 1000 Hz: 73.5% (an improvement of 35.3%); Frequency 4000 Hz: 73.5% (an improvement of 32.4%); Frequency 8000 Hz: 50% (an improvement of 29.4%).
Conclusions: The rate of hearing improvement after the 3rd day of treatment was 35.3%; after the 5th day of treatment, it was 61.8%. The degree of improvement in hearing at treatment days 7 and 10 was the same at 76.4%.
