Abstract
Objectives: Survey on nurses’ and midwives’knowledge, attitude and practice of applying SBAR handover tool at University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City - Branch 2.
Subject and Method: A cross-sectional study included 34 nurses and midwives who directly take care of patients in clinical departments of the hospital; each was observed for two chances of handover.
Results: The average score of SBAR knowledge in shift-to-shift bedside handover ranged from 3.7/5 to 3.8/5. The average of SBAR attitude score in shift-to-shift bedside handover of medical staffs ranged from 3.5/5 to 4.1/5. The average SBAR practice score is 8.8/12
Conclusion: Nurses and midwives have a good knowledge and positive attitude onapplying SBAR handover tool. Among the steps of SBAR practice, the good practice score was respectively high on Assement (A); situation (S); background (B); recommendation (R). The average score of midwives’ knowledge and attitude of nurses was higher than of midwives; the highest score is from Department of General Surgery and the lowest is from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
